The IU Opera Theater performance of the religious music-drama Parsifal in 1949 was the world's first collegiate production of the work.
A performance Valentine's Day (Feb. 14, 8 p.m., Musical Arts Center, IUB) will mark the 50th anniversary of that performance with a concert version of excerpts from Wagner's final work.

IU South Bend ranked first in student retention from freshman to sophomore years between 1997 and 1998. IUSB retained 6.4 percent more freshman-to-sophomore students than it did in 1995. The entire university showed a 0.7 percent increase in retention.
