Spring may be just around the corner on many IU campuses, but then again, maybe not. In a milder clime last semester on the IUB campus, Marc Harper took son Banyan for a barefoot-in-the-Jordan-River excursion. Read Tim Dunnuck's column in this issue on how child care affects the quality of life of employees and students on university campuses.

The executive director of the President's Initiative on Race will be the featured speaker for a Thursday (Feb. 25) presentation at IUPUI. Judith A. Winston will discuss "Race in America: Challenges and Opportunities." In her role as leader of the President's Initiative on Race, Winston works with President Bill Clinton, the advisory board to the project and the White House staff to coordinate the effort to educate the nation about race issues and promote a dialogue and leadership concerning those issues.

Her appearance is part of the School of Law-Indianapolis' 1998-99 Distinguished Visitor Series and is open to the public free of charge. The presentation, at the law school, 735 W. New York St., begins at 7:45 p.m.

A reception precedes at 7 p.m.
