In accordance with university policy, the Trustees of Indiana University are conducting a five-year review of IU President Myles Brand's tenure. The review, which is being overseen by Robert H. Atwell, president emeritus of the American Council on Education and former president of Pitzer College in California, includes interviews, written comments and open meetings. His associate is William Baker, formerly vice president of the University of California.
Atwell has already visited the Kokomo and South Bend campuses. The schedule for the remaining open meetings is:
IU Bloomington - April 1, 1 p.m., Dogwood Room, IMU.
IU East - April 1, 3 p.m., Community Room, Whitewater Hall.
IU Northwest - March 29, 3 p.m., Library Conference Room.
IU Southeast - March 31, 3 p.m., Library Multipurpose Room
IUPUI - April 8, 10 a.m., University Library Auditorium
IPFW - March 30, 2:30 p.m., Kettler Hall 239
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend and contribute their comments to the review. The deadline for written comments is April 7. They should be mailed directly to Atwell at 447 Bird Key Drive, Sarasota, Fla. 34236.
The trustees, who are seeking broad involvement from the university community, hope that the process will not only evaluate Brand's performance, but also provide valuable insight into how the direction of the university is perceived. The review should also shed light on the university's future needs.
