Helen Bullock, an Americorp Promise Fellow, has a mission--to develop a volunteer action center on the campus of IU East. As a result of a grant to IU East from Americorp, she is currently surveying area agencies to determine the level of volunteer support they already receive from IU East students and what the need is for further assistance.
Americorp Promise Fellows are a specialized group of Americorp members who devote a year of service to spearheading community efforts to provide young people with an ongoing relationship with caring adults, parents, mentors, tutors and coaches; safe places and structured activities during non-school hours; a healthy start; a marketable skill through effective education; and an opportunity to give back through their own community service.
Bullock's background includes work with Adult Education in Richmond Community Schools and with the City of Richmond ACTION -VISTA program.
