A daughter's wish to acknowledge the lives of her parents has resulted in the first endowed professorship at IU East and the naming of a recreation center.
"Because my parents were so supportive of young people, the endowed professorship is a suitable way to honor their memory," said Dorothy Thorman of Richmond. "It is also a way to show support and loyalty to Indiana University and pride in the strides of our own IU East."
The John and Corinne Graf Endowed Professorship in communications was the second endowed chair at an IU regional campus. A search currently is being conducted to fill the chair. The John and Corinne Graf Recreation Center is scheduled to open next August as part of the Richmond campus' new classroom/activity building (see construction photo at right).
John and Corinne Graf owned and operated IRC&D Motor Freight in Richmond. Started in 1918 with one truck, the company grew to 325 employees, 700 pieces of equipment and eight freight terminals.
