IUB, IPFW have new affirmative action officers

Two Indiana University campuses begin the semester with new affirmative action officers.

Julie Knost is the new director on the IU Bloomington campus and Judith A. DiIorio is the affirmative action/equal opportunity officer at IPFW. Knost also serves as university-wide AAO.

Knost has worked in a number of legal positions in Indianapolis and Bloomington since 1977, most recently as a private practitioner in Bloomington. Her specializations have included employment law, discrimination and sexual harassment.

The IU Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy pledges itself to continue its commitment to the achievement of equal opportunity within the university and throughout American society as a whole. In this regard, IU will recruit, hire, promote, educate, and provide services to persons based upon their individual qualifications. IU prohibits discrimination based on arbitrary considerations of such characteristics as age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation or veteran status.

Knost has been involved in a variety of community activities, including IU's Women's Partners program, Planned Parenthood and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Monroe County.

DiIorio has been at IPFW since 1981 and has served as chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.

Her research interests are social stratification, sociology of gender and emotion, qualitative methodology and social psychology.

At IPFW, DiIorio has served as director of the Women's Studies Program and the Summer Institute for Integrating Gender Scholarship into the Curriculum and General Education. She has served as interim assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Additionally, she was a member of the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee, the Chancellor's Advisory Committee for Disabled and Handicapped Students, and the Center for Women and Returning Adults.
