Think the baby boomers are the fastest growing segment of the population?

Not so. It's the population of Americans over the age of 85 that is the fastest growing age group and the numbers are projected to quadruple (to 12 million) by the year 2040.

We take you this week to the new Web site of the IU Center for Aging Research (CAR) where you can link to readings about John Glenn's upcoming space trip -- that's him in the picture, age 77. He's set to do some outer space research related to the aging process. The NASA voyage has a projected launch date of Oct. 29.

Take an aging "IQ" test, check the demographics of America's elderly population and see what the center on the IUPUI campus is all about. Home Pages profiled CAR in a story last March, when the center began work to compile a "who's who" of biomedical, behavioral and social researchers.
