Recipients of Distinguished Service Awards on the IU Bloomington campus earlier this year were
Howard Mehlinger (front left), professor emeritus of education and director of the Center for
Excellence in Education, and Myrtle Scott (front right), professor of education. The awards are
given jointly each year by the offices of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Ken Gros
Louis, Bloomington chancellor (back left), and Deborah Freund, dean of faculties and vice
chancellor for academic affairs (back right). University Chancellor Herman B Wells was on hand
for the ceremony. Scott teaches counseling and educational psychology, and Mehlinger, former
dean of the School of Education, is co-director of the Institute for the Study of Russian Education
and teaches courses in social studies education.
