Hesburgh
The Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, received the Henry A. Rosso Medal at ceremonies marking the 25th anniversary of The Fund Raising School at the IUPUI-based Center on Philanthropy Aug. 27. The award, named in tribute to the founder of the school, who died in February, was presented by IUPUI Chancellor Gerald Bepko in recognition of lifetime achievement in ethical fund raising.

Hesburgh was also the recipient of the Chancellor's Medal from IU South Bend Sept. 25. He was honored for his contributions to civil rights, academic freedom and international peace. IUSB Chancellor Kenneth Perrin made the presentation at a dinner celebration.

Hesburgh was named the 15th president of Notre Dame in June 1952 and retired from that position in 1987. Since his retirement, he has played an instrumental role in the development of several Notre Dame institutes and centers, principally the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies.
