IU South Bend's Toradze Piano Studio has had two internationally prestigious "wins" in the past year. Alumna Tamara Gurevich won the grand prize in the Da Cidade do Porto International Piano Competition in Portugal last October. IUSB student Vakhtang Kodansashvili earned top honors this summer, winning the gold medal in the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati. His win was a "repeat performance" for IUSB: Former Toradze student and IUSB faculty member George Vatchnadze won the same competition, for artists under 30, in 1997. The competition includes a debut concert at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
