• The fourth annual IU Undergraduate Research Conference is today (Nov. 6), 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., University Place Conference Center, IUPUI. IU President Myles Brand is scheduled to give the welcome address and guest speakers include Donald Asher ("Bound for Graduate School? -- Strategies to Gain Admission to Highly Competitive Graduate Programs") and IUB biologist Karen Muskavitch ("Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due: Ethics and Appropriate Attribution for Research or Creative Work.")

• The 20th Whitewater Valley Drawing, Painting, Photography and Printmaking Competition, the longest running annual regional art competition in the Midwest, is taking place tomorrow (Nov. 7) at IU East. Juror Bonnie Clearwater, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, Fla., will discuss aesthetic decisions at a presentation Sunday (Nov. 8) at 1:30 p.m., Middlefork Hall auditorium.
