This fall marks another record-breaking semester at IUPUI as new student and credit hour numbers reached all-time highs in campus history.
For the fourth straight fall semester, IUPUI's overall student body has shown an increase, with 27,821 students, a 2.9 percent jump over fall 1997. (There are 1,475 students at the IUPU -- Columbus campus.) The number of beginning freshmen grew from 2,712 in fall 1997 to an all time record this fall of 3,186, a 17 percent increase.
Credit hours taken by students this fall reached a record-breaking 275,071, a 3.3 percent increase from a year ago.
Of the 26,336 students based at the Indianapolis campus, the African American student body increased 5.2 percent over last year to 2,660 students. Hispanic student numbers show a 3.5 percent increase with 359 students enrolled this fall.
The number of students taking a full-time load of courses grew 4.4 percent with the Indianapolis campus showing 52.6 percent of its students in full-time status. Female students remain the majority, constituting 56.9 percent of the Indianapolis student population.
