Similarly, on the IPFW campus, in the art history classroom of associate professor Samantha Birk, students experience the Cathedral of Notre Dame on the Web through an assignment called "Postcards from the Edge of the Internet."

"Technology helps students participate more actively in their learning‹especially those who take part off campus," Birk explained. The technology has given her instruction a new philosophical depth. "It makes me stop and think about what I am teaching and what I want to accomplish. I return to my discipline's roots and challenges."
