Don Garvin's a one-man show at the IUB Department of Chemistry's Glass Shop. Last year, Garvin completed 500 job requests for laboratory equipment universitywide. And we're not talking about test tubes and simple beakers. He fabricates and repairs glass equipment with such names as "vertical heart chambers with water jacket and photo surface," "hipios dissociator tubes" and "H-cells for electro-chemistry," and counts among his "clients" the IU Medical Center and the IU Cyclotron Facility. Beginning as an apprentice in 1983, he took on the task full time in 1986. In this picture, he is working at a lathe, spinning and shaping a glass globe.
