The hallmark of Indiana University Northwest is its ability to combine the personal attention, academic advising, leadership and learning experiences of a small college with the opportunities of a large university. Students are able to work collaboratively with classmates and professors, while benefiting from a wide variety of majors and learning resources. In northwest Indiana most students maintain their work, family and community responsibilities while they attend college. We know how important it is to have classes close to work and home. To help our students pursue their success stories, we opened the Deer Creek Instructional Site in Schererville to complement our main campus in Gary and the Portage Instructional Site. IUN offers morning afternoon and evening classes in these three locations to make it convenient for our students. We believe it is important to be the kind of college that accommodates our students' full lives and busy schedules.
Through our "Smart Start" program, students can complete the first year of general education requirements for most Indiana University degrees at our off-campus instructional sites.

IUN's off-campus programs are serving a growing segment of the population in Northwest Indiana. The innovations at the Schererville site are part of our efforts to build a facility designed to meet the educational needs of people in this area.
