They're student driven, require tremendous amounts of energy and raise
funds for two very important organizations that provide outreach to the
state and beyond.
The first, the Spirit of Sport All-Nighter, begins at 5 p.m. today (Feb. 20) at the HPER Building on the Bloomington campus. Hosted by the IU Division of Recreational Sports, the 24-hour event in its 20th year, will have some new and outrageous sports offerings for participants and spectators. Expect some fun with a human burrito contest, a deep-water fitness competition and an innertube water polo match.
Last year, SOS All-Nighter raised more than $10,000 and attracted more than 6,000 participants. The funds go each year to the Indiana Special Olympics and IU's SOS continues to be the Indiana Special Olympics' largest group fundraiser.
Earlier this week, the student leaders who organized the annual Dance
Marathon were honored guests at the Statehouse.
An Indiana House of Representatives resolution honoring the IU Dance Marathon, which raised a whopping $205,000 last year for the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center at Riley Hospital for Children, was presented Tuesday (Feb. 18).
