Doing some office spring cleaning and rearranging? Take a look at these questions:
If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then IUB's Material Stores
has the solution.Departments can help IU use existing university materials by redistributing them within the campus while giving other departments an avenue to dispose of items no longer needed.
Best of all, items headed to the landfill can be kept to a minimum.
IUB Material Stores will pick up and sell surplus office furniture, equipment and other related items to IUB departments, faculty, staff, students and, in some cases, the public.
Material Stores professional staff will come to departments to determine how they can help. Staff will pick up and "recycle" unneeded furniture and equipment if it is something that can be lifted by two workers. In many cases, a percentage of the income from selling items is returned to the department. (If staff are not able to lift items or if only non-sellable items are to be removed, Physical Plant's Moving and Set-ups staff will help move items for recycling or landfill on an hourly charge basis.)
Once items are picked up, they are placed in a warehouse "showroom" area for others to buy. This is helpful when department budgets won't permit "buying new."
While the general public may purchase items through IUB Material Stores, many of the best pieces are restricted for sale to IU departments and priced at a fraction of the original cost.
Currently there are conference tables, computer tables, desks, reception area chairs, bookcases, file cabinets and more for viewing. There are also used computers and accessories for sale. Many of the computers are 386- and 486-speed, in good working condition, and can be "test tried" in the showroom.
IUB departments, faculty, staff and students buying for personal use can purchase items Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The general public can purchase items only on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
IUB Material Stores is located in the IU Warehouse Facility at 2931 E. 10th St., across from the U.S. Post Office at Woodbridge Station. Items not going to other university departments are only sold by check or money order made payable to Indiana University.
To arrange for an appointment with a member of the IU Material Stores staff, call 812-855-2475. Staff and faculty also can subscribe to a listserv at which IUB departments may notify others of materials available to other departments.
