The Kalachakra Initiation, also known as "Turning of the Wheel of Time," is the most sacred of all Buddhist rituals and will be led by the Dalai Lama in Bloomington in August 1999. The Dalai Lama is the brother of an IUB emeritus faculty member.
Kirkwood gaps refer to gaps in the asteroid belt and were discovered by IUB mathematician Daniel Kirkwood (1856-1886). Kirkwood Observatory on the Bloomington campus was built in 1900.
