The IU Southeast-Japan "connection" was established more than 10 years ago when the campus was selected to serve as the home for the Greater Louisville Saturday Japanese School.
The school is taught and administered by parents and other native Japanese who are temporarily assigned to work at regional companies that are fully or partially Japanese owned. The IUS Continuing Studies Division provides logistic and administrative support for the school.
A Japan Center has been established to help build understanding between the two countries. In the last few weeks, IUS has hosted a fascinating exhibit on Japanese culture that included two dolls (see story) that were sent to Indiana and Kentucky as part of a children's exchange 70 years ago.
