In 1996, the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation that created the Indiana Family College Savings Plan. Information regarding the plan was recently sent to all IU faculty staff by NBD Bank, the state-approved administrator.
The Indiana Family College Savings Plan is tax deferred and should be viewed as one option for saving and paying higher education expenses. IU faculty and staff, as well as hourly staff, may contribute to the plan through IU payroll deduction for one account. Those who wish to open multiple accounts may contribute through automatic deduction from a checking or savings account and through coupon contributions.
NBD will be offering information sessions on all IU campuses from now through April. Consider attending a session (30-45 minutes) to ask questions and to learn how the plan works. Dates, times and locations for those sessions already scheduled are listed below.
Any questions about the plan may be directed to NBD at 1-888-814-6800.
