24 IU faculty receive 1997 FACET teaching initiative awards

By Karen Everdon

Twenty-four faculty members representing a wide variety of disciplines from Indiana University campuses across the state have been selected to receive the 1997 Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) awards.

Announcement of the awards was made by Eileen Bender, special assistant to the chancellor and professor of English at IU South Bend. She directs the university-wide FACET program.

FACET activities include the building of a statewide IU teaching network, the IU Summer Institute, development of individual, campus-based activities, programs for part-time and associate faculty, creation of forums on teaching excellence and contributions to FACET's publication, Quick Hits: Successful Strategies by Award-Winning Teachers.

The faculty awards are given based on exceptional commitment to teaching, ability to be catalysts for students and colleagues, capacity for self-evaluation, creativity in course preparation and presentation, and influence and impact of teaching on student learning.
