The Trustees of Indiana University acted on plans concerning Willkie Quad on the IU Bloomington campus, to convert it from dormitory housing to a complex of suites and apartments. The design for the $27.7 million renovation was approved by trustees in January, but questions about the financial package delayed a decision on Willkie until the Feb. 28 meeting on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis.
Other facility action:
Kenneth R.R. Gros Louis, IU vice president for academic affairs and chancellor of the IU Bloomington campus, reported on 21 Strategic Directions recommendations identified for close monitoring. He submitted a report on 13 of the 21 recommendations that deal primarily with campus issues and initiatives. Winners of Strategic Directions awards will be announced on April 1.
Committee reports:
Trustees heard a favorable report on projects concerning Clarian, the entity resulting from the merger of IU Hospitals and Methodist Hospital. Also discussed was the development of an innovative course that teaches freshman-level psychology and other applications of its teaching methodology at IU, efforts to present about 900 teaching awards university-wide and the process of selecting a new master planner for IU. The meeting concluded with a discussion of the process to re-accredit the IU Bloomington campus through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools this spring.
