By Jayne SpencerThe 10th anniversary Indiana University Undergraduate Intercampus Women's Studies Conference is scheduled Friday, April 3, on the campus of Indiana University Kokomo.
Keynote speaker will be former Fort Wayne resident Mary Kay Blakely, professor of journalism at the University of Missouri at Columbia, columnist for the New York Times, and author of American Mom: Motherhood, Politics and Humble Pie; Wake Me up When It's Over: A Journey to the Edge and Back When.
Blakely's American Mom started out with a title she had chosen in honor of her two grown sons, Ryan and Darren. She wanted it called Raising Outlaws. But when her editors got the manuscript, the name was changed. (Algonquin Books, 1994).
The book describes Blakely's marriage, the births of her children, her divorce after 10 years of marriage and the adventures making the best of a "post-nuclear" family.
A student performance from the play Les Belles Soeurs is also planned during the day's activities at Kokomo.
