Six years ago, the IU Nicotine Dependence Program was launched at the IU
School of Dentistry. Today the program ranks among the most successful
in the field: nearly 33 percent of the program's participants have
abstained from tobacco use for one year or more.
The IU School of Dentistry (IUSD) has alums in 30 countries. Today the IU
school has 17 formal contracts of cooperation with schools in 12
countries, including five in Thailand, where IU is helping with the oral
health-care needs of persons living with a shortage of providers. Many of
IUSD's former students now living abroad have been key players in the
success of such programming.
