Religious affiliation in the city of Providence, R.I., is predominantly Roman Cath-olic. Lynchburg, Va., has strong, traditional Baptist congregations and Salt Lake City is the Mormon capital of the world. These cities, along with Indianapolis, where no religious group dominates either the spir-itual or cultural life of the city, are research sites for a study on religion's historical and present role in community diversity. Project director is Jan Shipps, senior research associate and professor emeritus of history and religious studies at IUPUI. Shipps will discuss the project April 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Madame Walker Theatre Center Ballroom, 617 Indiana Ave., Indianapolis.
Gov. Frank O'Bannon has proclaimed April 13-19 Phi Kappa Phi week in recognition of the centennial anniversary of the oldest and largest national scholastic honor society. The organization was founded 100 years ago at the University of Maine.
