Pacific Rim focus of Kokomo conference April 18

The Pacific Rim and its role as a major player in the global community are the subject of a conference scheduled April 18 on the IU Kokomo campus.

Thomas Sheehan, director of operations for Delco Electronics and former Delco president of the Asia/Pacific Customer Group, headquartered in Singapore, will be the keynoter.

The conference agenda is designed for both the education and business communities.

The United States exports to Asia were valued at $193 billion in 1995, exceeding U.S. exports to Europe by more than $50 billion. And while one-half of the world's population resides in Asia, projections at the turn of the century place that percentage at two-thirds.

Deadline for registration ($45) is April 11. For information, call 765-455-9375.

Business alums to hold virtual 'teledialogue'

From Bloomington, Chicago and New York to London, Paris and Frankfurt, IU School of Business alums will gather "face-to-face" at an interactive video meeting April 18.

The first of a series of planned "multinational business teledialogues" will involve approximately 200, including a number of top executives at European and Asian firms who participated in an international forum last May in Germany's Wiesbaden.

The program will open with taped comments from IU President Myles Brand and information about the school's international activities and is sponsored by the school's Global Programs Office.

IU's badlands' classroom offers 'non-traditional' paleontology

The classroom is the badlands of the Bighorn Basin, located in the fossil-rich foothills of northern Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains. The "dorm" is called The Hide-out, a fifth-generation working cattle and agricultural ranch.

If visiting dinosaur graveyards and learning about some of the world's most famous dinosaur-bearing rocks sounds like a class not to be missed, mark your calendars for July 7-12. (Registration deadline is May 1.)
