Some students go the extra mile

One value of service learning is that it is an enjoyable and effective way for students to learn course material. For many students, however, the experience is valuable not only academically, but in its own right. Many continue their service after the semester ends, and some make rather dramatic contributions.

One student who did her service learning at Girls Inc. ended up working with the executive director to establish a Girls Inc. site in her own community.
A student working with AIDS Task Force Richmond (ATFR) worked with the director there to establish an AIDS Task Force in western Ohio, for which she now serves as the contact person for Preble County.
Another student working with ATFR shared her experiences with the ministerial association in her community with the result that they sought assistance from ATFR to develop educational programs for local churches.
