It's been a watershed year for IU East in service learning

The number of service learning courses offered nearly doubled, encompassing every division and about a dozen disciplines. The campus service learning committee has developed the following working definition of a service learning course:

A course-based, credit-bearing educational experience in which students...

  • Engage in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs and

  • Reflect on the service activity in such a way as to demonstrate successful accomplishment of major course objectives, an enhanced understanding of the community, and a strengthened sense of civic responsibility and philanthropy.
