IUB is one of the 99 U.S. Department of Education's Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program sites. Named in memory of one of the astronauts killed in the Challenger space shuttle accident, the program has operated at IU for two years, supporting 30 students pursuing doctoral study. The program encourages first-generation, low-income and minority students.
