IUB Health Center gets A+

The Indiana University Health Center in Bloomington is one of the top medical ambulatory care centers in the country, according to the Accrediting Association for Ambulatory Health Care Inc.

After a review conducted in November, AAAHC awarded the facility a three-year certification, the highest level. AAAHC sets practice standards for medical clinics, surgical centers, group practices and a variety of other medical providers.

"Your health center is one of the best in the country; in fact, it may be the best," said Dr. Charles Yockey, one of the primary AAAHC investigators, in his summary comments. "Ambulatory health care facilities in the 1990s and into the 21st century will have to be efficient, well managed and high tech. The IU Health Center is clearly on the cutting edge. You should be extremely proud of the facility and the staff who work here."

The survey, an update of an earlier one in 1992, was again conducted on behalf of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Puri was ranked ninth in the world in the 1992 survey.

Bobbsey Twins for adults?

Mark Twain defined a good library as one with no Jane Austen books. Andy Rooney once characterized her work as "Bobbsey Twins for grownups."

Indiana University's WFIU-FM is airing a special series this month, Sundays at 8 p.m. on Austen. The programs feature dramatizations from all six Austen novels.
