IU Press journal in top 10

By Jayne Spencer

cover shot Black Renaissance/Renaissance Noire, published by the Indiana University Press, has been named one of the 10 best magazines of 1996 by Library Journal, the most important publication for American librarians.

Black Renaissance, according to the Library Journal's May 1 issue, has "set out to bring the voices of black intellectuals to a wider audience. Whether discussing the historic visit of Castro to Harlem in 1960 or analyzing the Million Man March from three different perspectives, the writing maintains a personal expression that is compelling without sacrificing the authors' sharp insights."

Published three times a year, the magazine is multilingual. Articles for the July issue include these titles: "Tupac Shakur: Time on the Cross," by Jacquie Jones; "A Negro in Moscow," by Dwayne Woods; and excerpts from Quincy Troupe's The Genius of Miles Davis.
