Forty-three women from 11 universities in the Midwest are expected to arrive in Bloomington June 6-8 for the seventh biennial conference of Big Ten University Women's Organizations. The theme of this year's conference will be "Embracing Change."
"All of the women's clubs at the various schools in the Big Ten are struggling with maintaining membership," explained Patricia B. Smith, chair of the conference. She noted that on the Bloom-ington campus new members seem to come from those who are veterans of the working force, rather than younger women.
Smith explained that the clubs have different thrusts in that while they all have a social base, some of them run thrift shops and are engaged in fund raising for scholarships, for example.
