The creator of both the Center for Executive DUHcision Making and a potato-headed office worker named Dilbert has caricatured the corporate workplace in ways that transcend language and culture.
Cartoonist Scott Adams, read each day in 17 languages and 41 countries, is a former Pacific Bell employee who will make the keynote address at the Tour of Technology in San Diego Oct. 3. Dilbert and his office mates comprised the first interactive comic strip appearing on American Online in 1993 and launched a cyber-funnies revolution.
Unfortunately for the Home Pages, we can't run Dilbert but from time to time throughout the year, we'd like to run a cartoon. So we invite you to write a new caption (or change door signs, name plates, fixtures) for one of the 'toons you see in this issue and send it to us, in care of Home Toons, Office of Communications and Marketing, Poplars 719, IUB. Or draw a cartoon of your own. We're looking for humor in your/our common workplace.
Submissions must be received by Dec. 15. Prizes will be awarded (we're not sure what, but they will be smaller than a bread box and no, we won't contribute to your CREF or PERF funds). We'll pick the best of the lot for publication in the Home Pages and profile the winners, with brief descriptions of the work environment that inspired them.
Oh yes, and if you want some inspiration, you can go to this Web site for a
major dose of Dilbertese. You can even send an E-mail to Dilbert's creator.
