- The Children's Sleep Disorders Center at Riley Hospital at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis opened in 1987 as one of the first in the nation; it remains the only children's sleep center in the state and experts at the sleep lab have just completed their 10,000th patient study.
- Students in the IU Northwest nursing program led the northwest Indiana region and exceeded the national average in passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) at both the associate degree and baccalaureate degree levels this year. According to Doris Blaney, dean of the division at Northwest, IU's nursing program universitywide ranks in the top 20 nationally.
