IU Art Museum on the Bloomington campus

An open letter to IUB employees

Kenneth R. R. Gros Louis
Vice President for Academic Affairs and
Chancellor of the Bloomington campus

Like figures in a John LeCarré spy novel or a Shakespearean drama, new publications come and go so often in an academic community that it can be hard to persuade people to take a look when the latest one appears. But we hope that you will take the time to check out the Links section in this edition of the "Home Pages," because it's the first issue of a monthly insert that will focus exclusively on the Bloomington campus. This effort was conceived by the new Office of Communications and Marketing, the university-wide office that also serves the Bloomington campus.
It is our hope that the Bloomington Links insert will become a forum for discussion about topics of interest to all of us who work on IU's oldest campus. From time to time, we will touch on:

That's a tall order for a four-page insert, but what makes this different is its link to IU Web pages. Using that connection, writers will be able to make available details to readers who want more information. The goal is not to duplicate information you may find in the Bloomington "Herald-Times" or from other sources, but rather to expand upon Bloomington campus information in a way that helps us all understand more completely the workings, aspirations and achievements of our campus.

I've long been a fan of our staff merit awards, which recognize the often unsung efforts of so many people who keep our campus operating and friendly. This insert offers another venue for showcasing staff excellence. Perhaps you can drop a note or a profile to Bloomington Links editor Ellen Mathia if you would like to recognize IUB individuals for their unusual efforts on behalf of students, faculty and other staff. We'd like to put some of these people "on stage" and shine a deserving spotlight on them.

This introduction is intended to launch the first issue of the Bloomington Links, but it is not intended to be a regular feature. Much more interesting would be your ideas, comments and opinions. We hope that future issues of this insert will draw both your attention and your response.
