Voices... Do you think IU is a safe place for students, employees and visitors?

Brawthen

Daryl Brawthen

manager of business affairs, Risk Management, IUB

"With the emergency phones and the additional lights, I believe the campus is safer now than 20 years ago. The campus feels safe. That may be a problem. Students should make wise decisions and travel in pairs or groups when walking through campus late at night."

Brown

Joann Alexander Brown

director of marketing and promotion, School of Continuing Studies, IUB

"If IU is to continue to be a wonderful learning resource for citizens of all ages, we all have to feel comfortable, safe and welcome. There may be a growing perception that the campus is not safe, and countermeasures will have to focus on certain realities -- lighting, escorts and other safety precautions. We will also have to address people's perceptions by doing what we can to help people feel secure and welcome within the gates."

Johnson

Roberta Johnson

academic advising secretary,
IU East

"I have always felt safe on our campus. We have added to our security staff. Our police officers are always willing to walk me to my car at my request. I would like to see a little more lighting in the parking lots."

Perez

Albino Perez

clinical assistant professor, Dental Education, IPFW

"I think that IPFW is a very safe campus. All the buildings are very accessible... none are so secluded that they are dangerous. The lighting in all areas is excellent. We have a qualified and friendly security force on campus. Anyone concerned about being safe can contact them and they will provide an escort to the parking lot or appropriate area."

White

Karen White

assistant vice chancellor and director, Freshman Division, IUSB

"Our campus is very safe. Our buildings are centrally located and security is constantly available. Their response time is short. We see safety and security officers all the time."
