Each year, the nine largest federal agencies award more than $900 million in research and development funds to small and mid-sized companies through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. IU's Industrial Research Liaison Program will be offering Hoosier companies strategies for winning these lucrative awards at a workshop scheduled Oct. 24 in Fort Wayne and Oct. 30 in South Bend.
To qualify for SBIR competition, a company must have 500 or fewer employees; more than 40 percent of past SBIR winners are firms with 10 or fewer employees.
The IU economic development assistance offices have helped 61 companies secure more than $34 million through the SBIR program.
