WebDev 96, the first conference for managers and other professionals in higher education to focus on development and delivery of effective World Wide Web-based administrative systems has come and gone. Personnel from places as far away as The Netherlands and South Africa were on the Bloomington campus Oct. 2-4. Sponsored by IU and the universities of Delaware and Minnesota, WebDev 96 played to a SRO crowd. But take heart, developers and deliverers. You can access all you want to know about the Web's capacity to handle administrative problems in the financial and student services sectors, instruction and examples of data retrieval and analysis, on-line transaction processing, report generation, and training and documentation. The WebDev site will allow you to preview and sign up for next year's conference. Abstracts of this year's presentations are on-line and transcripts of each will be available, too.
"We kept getting messages saying, 'You should share this information'" said Barry Walsh of the Office of Financial Management Support in Bloomington, who spearheaded the event. "So we hosted a conference on the subject."
