In an era of multimedia, Web sites, videotapes and digital scanners, each member of the university community is increasingly responsible for understanding the basics of copyright and fair use, and must know how to deploy them for advancing the educational mission. Too often copyright law is perceived as a barrier to pursuits, but the law, in fact, provides crucial opportunities and rights for creative uses of educational materials.
Stay tuned for a live feed from the Copyright Management Center (CMC) at IUPUI.
A live videoconference to address these concerns, "The 'New' Fair Use: Fresh Perspectives on Technology for Teaching and Research," will be televised via the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System (IHETS) Nov. 6 from 10 a.m.-noon. Kenneth Crews, director of the CMC, will moderate.
Panelists will include: Thomas Ho, chairman of the Department of Computer Technology, IUPUI; Ken Barger, anthropology, IUPUI; Suzanne Thorin, University Dean of University Libraries; and Michael Klein, associate university counsel.
Sponsored by the CMC and the IUPUI Office of Faculty and Senior Staff Development, the program may be downlinked through all IHETS sites by contacting the IHETS regional site coordinator. (If you do not know your campus' coordinator, contact Regina Mack at IHETS (317-263-8929; Email: rmack@ind.net); or contact the CMC (317-274-4400; E-mail: copyinfo@indiana.edu).
Questions will be accepted in advance of the program via fax (317-278 3301) or E-mail (copyinfo@indiana.edu). Senders should clearly indicate that the question is for the program. Questions may be submitted during the program to phone and fax numbers that will be announced on the air.
