The Alliance of Distinguished Rank Professors has awarded Morton Lowengrub, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences on the IUB campus, its annual Alliance Award for the Promotion of Excellence. The award is conferred upon an individual who has exhibited unusual distinction in promoting and encouraging the growth of excellence at IU.
Lowengrub previously served as chairman of the IUB Department of Mathematics from 1977-80; as dean of research and graduate development from 1982-88; and as director of the IU Institute for Advanced Study from 1986-88.
He also was awarded honorary membership in the Alliance of Distinguished Rank Professors.
Presentation of the awards was made Oct. 16 at a the Alliance's fall dinner.
Alliance members are those who hold distinguished professorships, titled and endowed chairs, and university professorships.
