  • If you could pick the topics for discussion by the Hoosier gubernatorial candidates during a public forum, what would the topics be?

That was what was asked of 300 city and county governmental leaders in a first-ever survey sponsored by the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (IACIR), based at the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment at IUPUI.

County officials rated unfunded mandates as the key issue, followed by taxes and welfare. Municipal officials picked taxes as their top issue, followed by unfunded mandates and infrastructure needs. The top issue for county trustees was welfare.

Survey results were released last month at the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns meeting.
