The graduating classes of 1899 through 1902 raised funds to install an 11-bell chime in the tower of the Student Building at IU Bloomington in 1906.
IU is one of 34 research universities helping create a national network for higher education that will be faster than the Internet. "Internet II" will provide professors and students with high-speed service and spur development of distance learning, digital libraries and collaborative research.
For the first time in its history, IU received in 1995-96 more than $200 million in contracts and grants, including $124 million that IUPUI received. The Indianapolis campus finished the year with a 6 percent increase in the number of awards and an 11 percent increase in dollars.
