The NCAA certification peer review team will visit the Bloomington campus Nov.10-13 as one of the final stages of the NCAA Division I athletics certification program. Five team members from Division I institutions will interview and meet with IU faculty, staff and students.

There will be an "open interview" session from 4-5 p.m. Nov. 11 in the "I" Lounge at Assembly Hall, at which time interested persons can meet the review team and share information they consider important to the evaluation.

The IU certification process began a year ago with a self-study, which concluded with a written report. The report was submitted to the NCAA in August, and copies are available at the IU Main Library and the Athletic Department office.

The IU steering committee earlier conducted two public committee meetings in connection with the self-study and report. According to the NCAA, the purpose of the certification program is to ensure integrity in the athletic operations of NCAA institutions.

The process opens the athletics program to scrutiny by the whole university and the public on the assumption that institutions benefit by an increased awareness and knowledge of the athletics program, confirming strengths and revealing areas that need improvement.
