Facilities
Approval was given for several projects, including:
Projects included in the 1997-99 capital appropriations request recommended for full funding include the Theater/Neal Marshall Education Center and a Graduate School of Business at Bloomington, phase 2 of the Herron/Law School project in Indianapolis and the life science addition at Southeast.
Also on the list are design funds for a classroom building to replace the Mary Cable building at IUPUI, and a science building at Kokomo.
Bloomington Land Use
Ed Williams presented the report of the Bloomington Land Use Task Force, which assessed future needs for the campus and designated areas in which the campus is urged to acquire any property that becomes available and avoid selling any now held by IU.
Included in the proposal is the relocation of two firing ranges and the IU Trap and Skeet Club range, and designation of property near the IU golf course for future recreational purposes.
The committee also recommended establishment of a permanent land-use policy committee to formalize administrative review of land-use proposals.
Personnel Committee
Two Indianapolis faculty members were granted named professorships: George W. Sledge was named the Ballve Lantero Professor of oncology, and Alan M. Golichowski was named the William H. and Sallie E. Coleman Professor of obstetrics and gynecology. Both positions are in the School of Medicine.
Discussions
Trustees met informally with faculty from the Fort Wayne campus to discuss ramifications of the IU-Purdue management contract for IPFW.
Included were the effects the two differing philosophies of management have on such items as library acquisitions, technology improvements, grievance procedures, teaching awards, promotion qualifications, faculty records and faculty evaluations.
