Prevention strategies

Indiana University Kokomo's Student Nursing Association was an active participant in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, sponsoring a community-wide Triple Touch Program endorsed by the American Cancer Society. Good breast health requires the following three step early detection system:

• Have regular mammograms: Every year or two after the age of 40 and every year after age 50.

• See a doctor for regular breast exams: A physician should examine a woman at least every three years between ages 20 and 40; every year after age 50.

• Practice monthly breast self-exams.
