The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first human gene therapy trial for the treatment of brain tumors using a new technique discovered earlier this year by researchers at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the Indiana University Medical Center and Takara Shuzo Co., Ltd., Biomedical Group in Otsu, Shiga Japan.
The IU Medical Center will begin the trial in a few months with children and adults who have brain tumors.
For a profile of David Williams, a member of the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research and principal investigator of the new technique, see the Oct. 11 issue of the IU Home Pages.
