Walk and age well

Would you like to improve the quality of your life, feel better about yourself, or get in touch with nature? OK, so you just want to get into shape. Maybe lose a couple of pounds.

Try walking, a beneficial exercise that nearly everyone can do safely. And it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Just a good pair of walking shoes, and you’re on your way.

Get started by warming up at the IU Center for Aging Research’s Web site walking program (see below). Exercise physiologist AnnMarie Saporito and biostatistician Tim Stump have created the page. It includes tips on stretching, targeting your heart rate zone and checking your fat intake. You’ll also find strategies for maximizing your activity and staying motivated.

The price is right. Get out your walking shoes and go to this Web site.
