Chronic pelvic pain

Chronic pelvic pain is one of the most common complaints for which women visit their gynecologists. Unfortunately, many of the causes of this pain are not related to the reproductive organs. According to a recent article published by IUSM’s Dr. William Hurd, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and his co-investigators, the pain is often mistakenly blamed on minimal or microscopic endometriosis, even when other treatable causes are present. He recommends that women and their gynecologists apply clinical criteria to determine if the pain is likely to be related to endometriosis or to other causes.
