POETS on POETRY:

"Why read poetry? Can there be an answer to this question? Why do we whistle? Why do we listen to rain? Why does George W. Bush often repeat his last phrase? It has something to do with necessary rhythm and the hard wired human urge to words. Anything more grand as a motive ought to be investigated by a grand jury."

Poetry is the greatest of all the arts because of the way it allows us to use language. It allows us to feel language as well as to hear it. We can find a self in poetry, and we can also create one.
